Nonverbal Workplace Communication Introduction Most often, nonverbal communication reflects gestures, posture, body language level of eye contact and facial expressions. Voice quality such as rhythm, timbre, pitch, intonation and the level of stress articulated in the verbal tone are also regarded as nonverbal forms of communication. Nonverbal communication has the ability to reinforce and reiterate what is stated verbally with sequential instead of simultaneous repeating. Nonverbal communication can also indicated information that is contradictory to what is verbally spoken, or sending mixed signals. Moreover, nonverbal communication can be complimentary, accentuate and/or amplify what is verbalized. Additionally, an individual can use nonverbal cues as a disruption to the flow of conversation and as a means of subjugating or attempting to intimidate another individual.
